The opportunity

As the Senior UI Designer on the Design system team, you will be responsible for the development, maintenance, and adoption of the design system across all product teams. You will ensure consistency, efficiency, and high-quality user experiences by providing scalable design solutions, guiding designers and developers, and evolving the design system to meet business and user needs.

System Ownership

  • Maintain and evolve the established vision and roadmap for the design system, ensuring it continues to support consistent and scalable user-centered design practices across the app.
  • Lead the ongoing development of the Figma-based design system library, ensuring components deliver both aesthetic quality and functional excellence.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for component design, accessibility, and interaction patterns to drive consistency across Teamwork.com

System maintenance and governance

  • Oversee and continuously improve the design system documentation site, ensuring it remains comprehensive, user-friendly, and current.
  • Maintain and evolve the design tokens repository, ensuring it aligns with functional needs across the application
  • Manage the icon library, adding new assets as required and ensuring stylistic consistency.
  • Uphold a governance framework for contributions and reviews, ensuring high-quality additions to the system.
  • Conduct workshops, training sessions, and presentations to educate teams about design system benefits and usage.

Cross-team collaboration and alignment

  • Serve as the central point of contact for design, engineering, and product teams, ensuring a shared understanding and alignment on design system objectives, processes, and deliverables.
  • Work with Product Managers and design leadership to proactively identify components required by teams for upcoming feature releases.
  • Collaborate with developers and designers to ensure correct implementation of components.
  • Host workshops and feedback sessions to encourage adoption, gather user insights, and refine the design system roadmap.
  • Work with stakeholders to balance user needs, business goals, and technical feasibility when prioritising updates to the design system.
  • Collect feedback from stakeholders, users, and team members to iterate on and improve the design system.

Execution

  • Design reusable, scalable, and accessible UI components that align with the design system's goals.
  • Craft design artifacts like wireframes, UI patterns, mock-ups, and prototypes; highlighting your design process to test, evangelise and deliver ideas.
  • Proactively update components, patterns, and documentation to meet evolving product and user needs.
  • Regularly audit the design system to ensure consistency, usability, and relevance across all Teamwork features & user journeys.

Quality & Consistency

  • Ensure visual consistency across all product features through effective use of the design system.
  • Conduct usability testing for new components and patterns within the design system.
  • Address edge cases and exceptions to maintain the system's flexibility without compromising consistency.
  • Regularly review designers' work to ensure adherence to the design system and uphold design quality standards.


What good looks like

  • You’ve proven experience in design systems management or a senior product design role.
  • You’ve strong understanding of design principles, UX/UI design, and front-end development practices.
  • You’ve excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • You’ve experience working with cross-functional teams in an agile environment.
  • You’re proficient in Figma and are familiar with design tokens and version control.
  • You’re passionate, self-motivated, and obsessed with detail. You’re a problem solver. You’re a team player, but you know when to take the initiative. You’re always learning. You understand the difference between product design and graphic design.
  • You have several years' proven experience designing digital products that offer clear and simple user interfaces.
  • You’re a strong communicator, comfortable articulating design decisions and rationale with clarity and confidence.
  • You’re solution focused, comfortable working independently to drive a design to resolution as well as collaborating closely with cross disciplinary team members.
  • You’re data driven and research focused, disciplined in validating design assumptions with real data and user insights.
  • You actively seek feedback on your design work in an effort to improve the quality of the outcome for the customer.
  • You consistently apply critical thinking to your design process to ensure decisions are thoughtfully considered.
  • You're experienced with industry standard design tools. Some experience with prototyping tools is also helpful. 
  • You're able to work well in a fast-paced environment, communicate effectively, and remain open to feedback from people in a variety of disciplines.
  • You have a deep understanding of user-centred design. 
  • You're passionate about taking complex user flows and layouts and making them visually appealing and easy to use.
